Exporting from Invivo.

Invivo is widely used for implant planning. Studies saved as .inv files must be exported back to DICOM for radiology reporting.

[ Multi-slice DICOM series (.dcm) — export from the .inv case ]

CBCT volumes (3D)

    Open the case

    Open the patient's volume in Invivo (File → Open, or from the case list).

    File → Save As

    Choose File → 'Save As'. Do NOT choose 'Save As Project' — that writes the proprietary .inv file we can't report from.

    Pick the DICOM type

    For 'File Save Type', select 'Multi-file DICOM with .dcm extension'. 'Multi-file' is the requirement — one file per slice. Any single-file DICOM option packs the whole volume into one .dcm we can't forward for reporting. Click OK, then choose a destination folder.

    Set compression

    In the 'DICOM File Save Options' window, set Compression to 'Uncompressed'.

    Set the Settings tab

    On the Settings tab, leave 'Options for exported 2D images' unselected. Under the 3D object options, include main volumes and detail volumes, and leave 'Include raw data' and 'Facescan' unselected. Make sure 'Anonymization' is unselected — an anonymised scan can't be matched to your case. Click OK to export.

    Check the folder, then zip

    Open the export folder and confirm it holds hundreds of .dcm files, one per slice — a single large .dcm means a single-file DICOM type was picked and we can't forward it for reporting. Then compress the folder to .zip and upload.

[ TIPS ]

  • Do not upload the .inv file itself — it is proprietary. Export to DICOM first.
  • 'Save As' and 'Save As Project' sit next to each other and do very different things. Project = .inv (no good to us); Save As = DICOM.
  • A single large .dcm (a multi-frame or 'VOL' export) cannot be forwarded for reporting and will have to be exported again.
